The Real Truth About the Internet and Job Search

In a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Joe Light sheds some light on how companies intend to use the internet to find talent in 2011.

Light explained that most companies plan to use network profile boards such as LinkedIn prior to even posting a position. They also plan on using trained headhunters versus paper-pushers that simply collect applications from third party job boards. The reason they will not have need for these clerks is they plan on using the internet job boards much less then in recent years.

One Change to Make your Resume Stronger

Recently I started to shop for a water filtering system for my home.  Usually I google everything but this time I went shopping without the tools.  Basically my thought was that there is one type of filtering system but just different qualities.  Boy was I wrong.

I went to my local home improvement center to get the solution to cleaner water.  I have a bad habit of buying other toys so promised my wife to go directly to the filters and get on out.  Upon finding the right aisle, I was amazed by the virtual wall of different types of filters.  I was overwhelmed.

The Unemployed Cannot be Ignored

Google the term “unemployment in the US”. What you will see is a collection of articles and stories discussing how the level of unemployment in America. You will see how anticipated unemployment rates are affecting the stock market prices. You will read about proposed incentive plans from the government and the never-ending argument over what is the best way to spend tax-payers money to create jobs. You might even read about how unemployment benefits need to extended as they are running out.

What you won’t read about is your neighbor down the street and they are dealing with this difficult struggle. Nor will you read about how that brilliant man in your church has struggled to find anything that even resembles his former position in aerospace engineering design.
